I’ve keep encountering people with stiff necks during this season. Their main complaint is the onset of the pain happened overnight making them suspect they have slept funny. When I start asking if they changed anything in their daily routine (pillow, sleep, exercise) the answer is often no. I then confirm people are not covering their necks and we’ve had cold days in Souther California.

I suggest that keep your neck and chest warm by using a scarf. Besides being a fashion statement (I love scarves), covering your neck keeps your muscles with regular blood flow and that is enough to keep them happy, supple and healthy!

You will not turn into a diamond if you take more pressure so how much pressure should you get during a massage?

That’s going to depend on different factors and it’s best to communicate with your therapist before and during the massage if necessary.

It’s important to let your therapist know if:
📝 your body is sore
📝 you recently took a painkiller
📝 you have any health condition (low/high blood pressure, spine condition, arthritis, circulatory issues, skin allergies, kidney conditions, etc)
📝 you have an injury or a recent surgery
📝 you are uncomfortable holding a position for a long time (supine or prone/ face up, face down)
📝 you currently have a migraine or headache
and anything else you consider important to share
Your therapist should know how to accommodate you and modify a session to ensure you have the best massage and the right pressure.

Last but not least, if your therapist doesn’t check if the pressure is right, feel free to express how you feel! Ask for a little less or more to ensure you enjoy your massage session.
